With virgin powder prices so high and still rising, now is the perfect time to evaluate this option. It is no secret that large, well-known companies use reclaimed powders for much of their raw material. We use the ZINC PROCESS. In this process, cemented carbide scrap is treated in molten zinc or zinc vapor, which reacts with the binder to form intermetallic phases and a zinc-cobalt alloy. After vacuum distillation of zinc, the material is friable and can be readily disintegrated.
